The floods that hit parts of England and Wales over the summer have had little impact on motor insurance premiums, it has been claimed.

According to analysis firm Experian's newly released motor insurance benchmark figures, the average quote given to consumers direct from insurance providers for comprehensive cover was £567.30 during July, August and September, with the impact of the floods not appearing to have much of an effect on the price.

However, drivers may want to keep their eyes peeled for ultimate finance offers when they come to renew their cover as premiums could rise in the coming months.

David Murby, managing director of Experian's insurance service division, said: "The true impact of the floods is likely to manifest itself in insurance premiums over the next few months in the direct market once claims have been settled and insurers have been able to assess the real impact."

The UK experienced an extremely wet summer with the Association of British Insurers estimating the damage caused by the floods will cost £2.5 billion.
